The season of Lent is a time to reflect on the solemnity of the Lord’s sacrifice and prepare our hearts for the celebration of Easter. During the Lenten season, the Basilica has two series of weekly reflections: a series of videos from our priests here at the Basilica, as well as a series of featured speakers held in the Crypt Church. Tonight’s reflection, “The Victory Remains with Love”, will follow the regularly scheduled 5:15 p.m. Mass in the Crypt Church.
“O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament have left us a memorial of your Passion, grant us, we pray, so to revere the sacred mysteries of your Body and Blood that we may always experience in ourselves the fruits of your redemption.” #NationalShrine #24HoursfortheLord #40HoursDevotion #ClosingMass
We invite you to join us on Saturday, March 30th for the Closing Mass of the 24 Hours for the Lord: 40 Hours Devotion. Mass will be broadcast live at 5:15pm in the Great Upper Church.
Join us tonight for the Closing Mass of “24 Hours for the Lord”. As Pope Francis says in his Apostolic Letter “Misericordia et Misera”: “The Sacrament of Reconciliation needs to rediscover its central place in the Christian life … a favorable occasion for this could be 24 Hours for the Lord, a celebration held in proximity to the Fourth Sunday of Lent. This initiative, already in place in many dioceses, has great pastoral value in encouraging a more fervent experience of the Sacrament of Confession.”
We invite you to participate in Pope Francis’ invitation to celebrate “24 Hours for the Lord” and the Basilica’s Forty Hours Devotion, which are being held to foster devotion to the Most Blessed Sacrament and assist the faithful in the pilgrimage of Lent.
